Who does this notice affect?

This notice is of interest to clients of the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources (the department) who import goods (including air and sea cargo, international mail, food, live animals, plant and plant products) into Australia.

What has changed?

The department’s draft Charging Guidelines 2015–16 is now available on the department’s website. The guidelines detail how the department applies the redesigned fees and levies that will come into effect as of 1 December 2015.

The draft guidelines are available for comment until 20 November 2015. The department is looking for comment on the draft charging guidelines with respect to how well the document communicates the way the charges will be applied. The department is not seeking comment on the new charging structure as these have been finalised and are presented in the new Biosecurity Cost Recovery Implementation Statement which was released last month.

Further information?

Information about the progress of the revised fees and charges will be updated as required at Redesign of biosecurity and export cost arrangements.

For further information stakeholders are able to contact the department by email at Cost Recovery or by phoning 1800 065 165.
